Interview Image

Starting my second career into Image Management so meeting Individuals, corporate clients, students... In short people from so mnay different backgrounds, walks of like.. From a 18year old to a 65 year old... From a homemaker to a corporate bigwig... What is the first thing I have to do is decide the type of Image I want to project while meeting every new individual.

Here are my few tips for Impressive Meeting Image

Dress Code : Play Safe and dress in conservative Western / Indian Formals. No Friday Dressing even if the interview / meeting is on weekends. If you are told in advance to dress casually still it is always better to be in a semi formal dressing.

Yes                               No

            Yes                            No

Accessories :  A good watch, handbag, right shoes, stud earrings and a simple neckpeice / scarf. You will have plenty of social occasions to flaunt your sexy shoes, lovely handbags and heavy jewellery  :-)

Yes                           No

Hygiene : Invest in a good perfume, moisturize your skin, keep nails short and preferably uncoloured or atleast light coloured and shoes in good condition, clean and polished.

Grooming - Apply the right amount of makeup needed for the occasion. A basic routine like sunblock, foundation , mild blush, kajal, eyeliner, mascara and a light lipstick (preferably matte) should be followed. All colors that you choose for makeup should be mild. For Indian skin tones use shades of pink / light brown. If you have dark under eye circles use a proper makeup to cover them.

Tattoos & Piercings : Tattoos were considered to be a taboo few years back, only for people in creative fields but that is changing. For your first impression limit the exposure as much has possible. You will have plenty to time to reveal your individuality once you have the job. If you have multiple piercings on your ear wear studs and no hanging earrings.

Body Language : Develop a good handshake and smile :-) Practice replying affirmative & confident.

Important Points to note:
1. Carry Two copies of your neatly written and printed resume
2. Pen ( smart pen specially not advertising any other company)
3. Small notepad to jot down important things
4. Silent your mobile phones (we all know this but it is important to follow)

For the first meeting one should always keep in mind what you want to convey and dress according. We all say "don't judge a book by it's cover" but in reality we all do it consciously /unconsciously.  So create the Right First Impression...

It's been such a longgggg time... My friends warned me that writing a blog can be tedious... For me summer has set in and am being just too lazy to do anything... There is so much to do and such less time ;-)

This time around i have thought about a blog on Age Appropriate Dressing.

I love wearing tees and jeans. Till few months  back that was like a staple for me. Have to take Aarav (my son) to garden - wear tee and jeans, a dinner - fancy tee and jeans, Aarav's school meeting - basic tee & jeans. So practically have stayed in and out of it like i did in college... But than it struck me suddenly.. I will be soon turning 30 and although i like to believe that 30's is the new 20's yet my body, my face, social interactions and many other things around me has changed.

The Fabulous 30's :

People say 30's is the time to be more serious about life and style and Image. Hell NO... This is the age where you are not on a fixed pocket money system to shop, you are not under peer pressure, you have a mind of your own...

1. Wear Clothes that fit well and make you feel confident. Invest in quality fabrics, cuts and clothes that flatter your body, while steering clear of juvenile prints and tight or revealing clothes.

2. You can still be fashion forward by pairing simple patterns with the right shoes and statement jewelry. My recommendations is bigger pieces of jewelry because you exude the confidence it takes to pull these pieces off.

3. Dressing like a 20year old no matter how much it might suit you won't keep you looking young. Develop a look that has more sophistication, but retain some fun elements if that is your personality.

4. Develop a style that is you from inside out - if you are feminine, look for fabrics which drape and have some softness.

5. Jeans are a great staple in many wardrobes, look for darker denims in plain washes rather than ripped or torn or distressed. Wear them with a funky sandal or flat or whatever the time and place demands. Throw out or donate jeans that are 5+ years old.

6. Invest in some good blouses (casual and dressy) instead of wearing tees every where.

7. Get a trendy haircut by a good stylist who understands your lifestyle and day in general. A good haircut is like a quick makeover, it goes a long way if done well.

8. Invest in good quality creams for your skin. This is important for all ages but 30's are the most important. The way you treat your skin now, it will show the results later in life.

By no means I am telling you to look drab or wear boring clothes... Buy clothes that naturally fit into your lifestyle. It's Ok to grow up.

Destination Fun :-)

Destination Fun :-)

Packing bags can be tiring sometimes. You are overwhelmed  about the clothes you should carry. I mean if I could than I would pack my whole wardrobe :-)

Few Packing tips when travelling to a Young Holiday Destination. (I have kept Goa & Bangkok in mind while writting this )

1.  Shorts : Shorts of all lengths - Micro Shorts, Regular Shorts & Boyfriend Shorts. A Blue Jeans short, pack a nice regular color like beige or black and add in another funky color (Neons are a big hit right now).

2. Tees - Shirts - Blouses : Keep one rule in mind while packing these - Majority of tops should be mix & matched with the bottoms you have, this way  u don't to carry a spare of everything. Have Tees, singlets, halters for day time use when it will be little hot and day will be casual. You can carry a bit fancy blouse / shirts for evening dinners. Pack up bright colors for bright mood.

3. Dress : Depending on your plan of the day opt for dresses to give you a more classier look. Keep the temperature of destination in mind and choose the fabric accordingly.

4. Jumpsuits / Rompers : They are fun. Just slip on a Jumpsuit and it spells out coolness... It is suitable for generally all body types except people with little extra fat around the tummy.

5. Accessories:  Sunglasses & Hat, Lots of bangles, neck-pieces & earrings, but always color coordinate them, you should be able to use them in a different ways with different tops. (will do a seperate post on this)

6. Makeup : SUNBLOCK lotion- min SPF40. I am in love with Olay 7 effects, carry a lip balm for day time and a gloss for night, carry a moisturizer with golden tints specially for beaches, when it is applied it give a golden effect to you skin.

7. Shoes : Carry atleast 2 pairs of shoes - Flat shoes cause you might be walking too much, try flat ballerinas & mocassins, they are comfortable and give a nice look to the outfit & Mid heels or Stilletoes - depends if you plan to go partying.

These are few simple tricks (which i intend to implement in future ;-), but just in case you don't want to do all these and SHOP SHOP & SHOP from the place... You get good bargain rates...

Love,
Jainee

Ditch your Slippers and get Moccasins...

Ditch your Slippers and get Moccasins... M in love with this pair.

Wear your moccasins with blue jeans, sweat pants, khakis or other casual clothing. Make sure you will not be walking through muddy or rocky terrain. Moccasins with built-in soles are usually thin and quite flexible

Slip the moccasins on when you attend a casual occasion such as an outdoor barbecue, a movie or other informal gathering. Watch the weather and avoid wearing the shoes when rain is forecast.

Wear cotton socks with your moccasins to help keep the leather dry and your feet and shoes odor-free. Another idea is to use foot powder on a regular basis.

They are available in a variety of colors so if you are not sure than opt for Beige or Brown or Black.

Wardrobe Neutrals for Men's Formal Wear

I was a hardcore recruiter earlier and have come across so many people who don't dress their designation. What i meant is that every organization, every designation, every field requires a different type of approach and Most men don't realize how much fashion choices impact their professional and personal success.

Fashion & Dressing up is considered to be a female domain so far but it would really be easy to style up and look smart if you keep few basics in mind.

Wardrobe Neutrals for Men's Formal Wear :

Shirts : Typically once you match the shade of your trouser with shirt all designs like stripes / squares/ dots work well in formals. Basics for men's shirt are Pint stripe shirts, Solid color shirts , White & a good Linen soft color shirt.

Tie: If you have to wear TIE to work than match the solid-colored shirt with a tie of the same (or slightly-off) color, this is little outdated so try mixing things up a little and experiment with colors. Ties are great way to express yourself, but keeping it tasteful is your best bet. You can't go wrong with diagonal stripes, modern polka-dots, plaids and subtle patterns. Just make sure your tie compliments your shirt, suit, sweater or what ever you will be wearing it with. Novelty ties are best avoided since the novelty is short lived.

Trousers: Black & Beige & Blue are Neutral Color Trousers. A number of shirts go well with these 3 colors. If you want to expand your color pallet a little more than try Dark Brown & Bottle Green Trousers. So many men avoid flat-front trousers. Flat-front trousers look better than pleated pants, at least most of the time. Plus pleats make you look a little bulgy at the waist. I have heard guys wear pleats because it’s more comfortable or because flat-fronts are more for athletic bodies. Truth is most men can wear a flat-front trouser. If you want more room then buy them a little big and have them brought in at the waist. This can be done at the store where you buy your clothes or by an independent tailor. And lastly, flat-font trousers are much more fashionable.

Belts : Always match your belt with your shoes. This is a good rule to follow and it keeps things simple. It's best to stay with traditional colors such a black, dark brown or a rich tan. Other colors will be difficult to match, and generally speaking, should be avoided.

Socks: The more official rule on socks is that they should match the color of your pants, though preferably not the exact same shade but avoid wearing black socks on a Beige trouser and white socks should be reserved for the gym.

Watches: Watches are the single most important accessory a man can own. I really suggest investing in one good watch that suits your lifestyle and taste. However, if you are someone who likes to own more than one watch, wear the appropriate timepiece for your outfit: black band with black shoes and belt; brown band with brown shoes and belt; and silver band for either.

Eyeglasses: They are one of the few ways you can really express yourself. They don't have to just serve a function, but can enhance your overall look. Do your best to find a pair of glasses that not only compliments the shape of your face, but also expresses your personality.

Bag-packs : Bag-packs at office??? really??? Whenever I see someone carrying a bag-pack i feel they are going on a vacation or a hike nearby. If you have important papers to carry get a nice briefcase, if you have to carry laptop than get a nice laptop bag.

Hope this will be helpful and since the SALE season is on just go out and get yourself a new professional look :-)

Warm Regards

Indian Formal & Festive wear

Indian Formal & Festive wear

Indian Formal & Festive Wear :

When we think of Indian Formals what comes to our mind is simple trouser & shirt / kurti or Churidar kurta, so 99% of the times it so happens that if we have a social function / Religious do to attend we either carry an extra pair of clothes or go home change (better not go to office ;-) )

The above cluster will help you day time office plus a social function with change of few accessories.
A Silk Jacket combined with Black Cigrate Formal Pants and a change of accessories.

Red is a very Festive color so you can opt for Jacket in lighter shades. These jackets are easy to maintain and can be used as a top / or a jacket with a camisole & jeans combination.

Cigrate Formal pants are easily available at W stores or you can customize your regular formal pants into this skinny look. Unless you have a Hourglass figure you should avoid wearing Cigrate pants with short shirts / blouses / tops.

Black Mary Jane Pumps are a must haves for office wear. Medium / High heel ballerinas are hot Favorites this season so stock them in different colors and you don't have to go bankrupt for this, go to Alfa - Vile Parle West (Mumbai), Linking Road - Bandra (Mumbai) and gift your self some lovely colors and one animal print ballerina.
